Enzo Fernández struck deep into stoppage time to earn Chelsea a 1-1 Premier League draw against Manchester City at the Etihad, in interim under-21s manager Calum McFarlane’s debut senior match following Enzo Maresca’s departure on January 1.
City had taken the lead through Tijjani Reijnders, but Chelsea showed resilience under McFarlane. In the 94th minute, Fernández reacted quickest to a parried cross, firing home to spark wild celebrations among players and fans.
McFarlane was crowded by staff at full-time, while supporters praised Fernández and substitute Andrey Santos for their impact.
The result takes Chelsea to 31 points from 20 games and in the top-five - denting City’s title momentum and leaving them six points behind leaders Arsenal.
